Coaching and Training

In 2013, he started Tyrone Carter Elite Training Schools and has trained high school athletes, NFL athletes and collegiate athletes around the country preparing for the NFL Combine.

In January, 2014 he served as a defensive backs coach for the winning National team in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl game in Carson, California for NFL Super Bowl Winning Head Coach Dick Vermil.

Professional and Collegiate Career

Tyrone Carter started his football journey at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida, as first-team all-county defensive back and first-team all-county running back in his senior season in 1995.

But he soon would be taking his talents north to state of Minnesota.

On September 21, 1996 a star was born at the University of Minnesota. A true freshman starting his first collegiate game, Tyrone returned two fumble recoveries for touchdowns as the Gophers upset Donavon McNabb and the Syracuse Orangeman at the Metrodome.

From that point forward there was no looking back. Tyrone finished his career at the University of Minnesota as a two-time first-team All-American and was the winner of the 1999 Jim Thorpe Award, given out annually to the best defensive back in college football.

Tyrone finished his career with 584 tackles (414 solo), which are both NCAA Division 1-A records.

Tyrone was then drafted in the 4th round (122nd overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and spent 3 seasons and started 21 games as defensive back. After a one-year stint with the New York Jets, Tyrone landed in Pittsburgh with renowned NFL head coach Bill Cowher and legendary zone blitz originator and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.

Tyrone spent 6 exhilarating years with the Pittsburgh Steelers winning the Super Bowl in 2006 with coach Cowher and again in 2009 with head coach Mike Tomlin. In his career with the Steelers he was twice named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

In 2010 Tyrone sign a contract with the San Diego Chargers to be a veteran leader to the young Charger secondary that included Pro Bowler Eric Weddle. Tyrone's duties within the secondary included recognition and coaching a formation tendencies in game, and providing insight and leadership to his teammates in the secondary.

“My goal is to help kids reach their full potential as athletes on-the-field and off-the-field.

- Tyrone Carter

Tyrone's passion and drive for success will help athletes reach their highest potential on the football field and give them the skills to be successful.

After retiring from the NFL in 2011, coaching and training has been in Tyrone's blood. He completed a coaching internship with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012 and then came back to the state of Minnesota to help train his cousin and former Golden Gopher Michael Carter as he prepared for a professional career in football.
